SLD

SLD is a semi-stainless tool steel made by Proterial (formerly Hitachi Metals). With around 12% chromium it sits right on the line between carbon and stainless steel: it takes a carbon-like edge, holds it well, and resists rust much better than carbon steel. Makers like Nihei and Hado use it for knives that cut like carbon but are easy to live with.

Wipe and dry after use. A great middle path between carbon and stainless.
