Daruma Hamono
Akihiro Furukawa followed an unconventional path into knifemaking. After working in sales and later at one of Tokyo's leading knife stores, he developed a vision for the perfect knife—one he couldn't find anywhere else.
Determined to create it himself, he began training at Nigara Hamono in Aomori in 2023, learning traditional forging techniques from experienced craftsmen. From that apprenticeship, Daruma Hamono was born.
Named after the Daruma, a symbol of perseverance and determination, Furukawa-san's knives reflect his passion, dedication, and fresh perspective on Japanese craftsmanship. We are proud to offer his work as he begins his journey as an independent maker.
