Hideo Kitaoka, a third-generation blacksmith, specializes in the creation of single-edged knives, a craft passed down through his family from his father and grandfather. Recognized as a master of single-edged sharpened knives, Kitaoka San runs his workshop situated in the esteemed Takefu Knife Village.
Kitaoka's choice materials for knife production revolve around carbon steels such as Shirogami and Aogami. His knives, featuring Suminagashi (damascus) patterns, are not just practical tools but also stand as exquisite pieces of art, showcasing his remarkable skill and craftsmanship as a blacksmith.
Furthermore, certain pieces crafted by Kitaoka bear the esteemed mark of "Dentokougeshi," an honor bestowed by the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry to artisans devoted to traditional crafts. This recognition is rare, with only a select few knife makers receiving this prestigious acknowledgment.
These exceptional blades are matched with meticulously crafted octagonal handles, crafted from stunning Ebony wood.
